Dorothy Higgins

Dorothy Lucille Higgins passed away on March 1, 2016 in her home in Lafayette CO. Dorothy was born on February 21, 1926 in Omaha NE, to the late William and Julia Cronican, the second of eight children. Dorothy graduated from South Omaha High School in 1944 and began her adult life as an administrator at Strategic Air Command at Offut AFB in Omaha. Dorothy married Bernard Nicholas Higgins on May 15, 1955, and after a honeymoon in Colorado Springs and Estes Park CO, began their love of Colorado, moving there in 1966. Dorothy’s primary focus in her life began with the arrival of her first child, Jeffrey in 1956, and she began the role as mother and homemaker that would consume her for the rest of her life. Dorothy’s second passion was for music and dancing, beginning in the ballrooms of Omaha during the Swing Era. Dorothy was a professional singer during her twenties and thirties, performing primarily at weddings and church events, and remained active in choir until her fifties. Dorothy is survived by her sons Jeffrey, Christopher (Vickie), and Timothy (Cathy) and daughter Michaela, siblings Lillian, Mary Ann, and Joan, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Bernard, her parents William and Julia, and her siblings Elizabeth, William, Patrick and Leonard. Rosary will be Monday March 7th at 6:00 PM. Mass is being held Tuesday March 8th at 11:00 AM. Viewing will be from 10:00 am-11:00 am on Tuesday before Mass. Both will be held at Shrine of St. Anne Catholic Church. 7555 Grant Place, Arvada, Colorado 80002. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wheat Ridge. There will be a luncheon back at the church following the interment at Mount Olivet.
