February 13, 1922 - March 8, 2013 Rest in peace, Doreen Veronica Bishop (nee Cooney), of Lakewood Colorado. She passed away peacefully with all her family around on Friday 8 March 2013 at Collier Hospice, in Wheat Ridge. She is joining her late husband Bob after twenty years. She is survived by three sons, Rob, Bruce and Tom, their wives Shelley, Susan and Cristina, and grandchildren Marty, Peter, Christopher and Carrie. She also stayed close to Bob's daughters Linda and Patte. She has one surviving sister, Pauline Farley, and four pre-deceased siblings: sisters Margaret and Marion, and brothers Tom and Herb. She lived at the same house in Applewood Knolls for almost forty years, and has maintained close friendships with all of her neighbors. She was active until the end, walking daily with neighbors, and a stalwart of her bridge club. She loved nothing better than having her family, especially her grandchildren, around her. People connected with her quickly and deeply " without any age barrier. She kept an open mind and was always willing to try new cultural experiences, foods, and music. Her quick and quirky sense of humor made it easy to have fun with Doreen. She was an avid reader. She was always delighted to attend local sporting events and was a fan of the Broncos. She enjoyed traveling and made many trips to Canada, Mexico, Europe and the South Pacific. Her neighbors remember Doreen for her support of the neighborhood block parties. She felt it was important to have the neighbors know and support each other. She always made her famous deviled eggs, which she hated making but knew everyone loved. She was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada on February 13, 1922, as the fifth of six children. She went to primary school at the Convent of Sion in Prince Albert, graduated from high school at Prince Albert Collegiate Institute, and finished a secretarial course at McPherson Business College in Prince Albert. Then, she worked as a secretary at the law firm of John Diefenbaker, who later became Prime Minister of Canada. She moved to Toronto with her sister Margaret, where she worked as secretary to a gold mining magnate, who would take his family to Florida each winter to escape the Canadian cold. Doreen and Margaret spent several winters as house-sitters in his mansion (complete with maid!) She moved back to Saskatchewan (Regina) in 1952 to work for Sohio Oil, where she met her husband-to-be, Bob Bishop, a senior geologist. They married in January 1954, and their first son Rob was born in Regina in October. Due to the nature of the oil business at that time, they were regularly transferred from one office to another, and in 1956 they moved to Billings Montana, where their second son Bruce was born in December 1956. In 1958 they moved to Oklahoma City, and later that year to Cleveland Ohio. In 1959, they moved back to Oklahoma City, where their third son Tom was born in October 1959. The family moved to Calgary Alberta Canada in 1967, where they stayed for six years. In summer 1973 they moved to Colorado, and settled in Applewood Knolls. Two neighbors who were there when they arrived, the Palacas and the Brugger families, are still there today. They have been good friends and neighbors for almost forty years. She also remained close to many other neighbors who have moved from the area. We will all miss Doreen. Services will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 1:30 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Lakewood.
