Donna Kay Wenzel

Donna Kay Wenzel (Peabody), 70, passed away peacefully with family by her side in Arvada, Colorado at Arbor View Memory Care Center on November 9, 2020 due to complications from dementia and the COVID-19 virus. A Colorado native, she grew up in Commerce City and graduated in 1968 from Adams City High School. On July 11, 1975 Donna married Jack Wenzel. Being a devoted wife they built a happy home and life together. In 1977 she began working for Adams County School District 14 until her retirement in 2013 as a Librarian and Media Specialist. Donna was known for her infectious smile, attention to detail and her love of family. During her employment she touched and contributed to the lives of her students and co-workers alike, leaving lifelong lessons and memories that can be shared with all. She was an inspiration and example of how to be a loving and nurturing person. When not taking care of her family, she enjoyed books, gardening, children and her pets: parrot, Fortune and puppy, Lexi. But Donna especially loved taking walks regardless of the weather. When she said, “We’re going for a walk”, EVERYONE went with her, rain or shine. She had extreme talent for many crafts, but her obsession was with rocks. She didn’t see them as simple stones, but rocks were a canvass to her living, animated paintings. Later she constructed miniature homes, forts and castles using the pebbles she collected on her many walks. She is preceded in death by her father Carl Peabody and her mother Eileen Peabody (Ricstatar). She is survived by her husband Jack F. Wenzel of the family home; sons, Felix V. Wenzel (Rebecca) of Thornton and Colin E. Wenzel of Brighton; also sisters Carol, Mary and Rose; grandchildren, Kelsey, Caiden and Cyler. We celebrate her life and the gift she was to all.
