April 13, 1922 - June 2, 2012 90, of Arvada, Colorado, died Saturday morning, June 2, of natural causes. Dolores is survived by her husband James Gable; two daughters, Holly Gable and Christine King, and a son Douglas; her daughter-in-law Susan Gable and son-in-law Randy King, and one granddaughter Cimarron King (CJ). Dolores is also survived by a sister Mary Webster of Baltimore, MD. She is also a sister of the late Lawrence Jameson, Jr. Dolores was raised in Buffalo, NY and graduated from the Department of Geology, University at Buffalo. She accepted a career with the United States Geologic Survey (USGS) and moved to Colorado. Summers were spent in the field with her rock hammer collecting rock samples she carried in her back pack to study later, an altimeter, and compass collecting surface and geologic data along the Front Range of Colorado, Ward, CO area including the Continental Divide, and Casper Mountain area in Wyoming. In the winter months she generated publications and maps showing vegetation, outcrops and topography which people use today when they acquire a topographic map in these areas for hiking to mineral and oil-gas exploration. While working at the USGS offices in Lakewood, she met James Gable, a draftsman, who remained her husband and partner for nearly 60 years. Dolores' passion was being surrounded in nature and its preservation. From her family life surrounded with animals and landscaping, being a Master Gardener and sharing her time with others, participating in bird counts, volunteering in developing the Jefferson County Open Space Program to the family vacations visiting National Parks around the United States, backpacking in the Rockies, trips to natural wonder areas around the world and even her work with the USGS studying the volcano on the big island of Hawaii. In lieu of sending flowers, her wishes are to send memorial donations to The Nature Conservancy,  which is fitting for Dolores' memory since she spent her life engulfed with learning about and living in nature and protecting nature's many splendors.
