Delphine Debra Martinez

February 11, 1959 — November 13, 2023

On November 13th, 2023, Delphine Martinez left her physical self here on Earth. Her last moments were spent with her daughters and grandchildren at her side, listening to Hotel California. As her beloved sister Patsy walked through the door and called out “Hi hita” she shed a single tear releasing her last breath.

To know Delfina was to love her and her crazy alien ways. Living an alien life wasn't easy; she always said she felt like she didn't belong. Not wanting anyone else to feel that way, she shared: her love, home, wisdom, lessons, passion for activism (specifically the chicano movement), music, dancing, the mountains, cooking, and baking in hopes of giving others a sense of comfort, happiness and a place of belonging.

Delphi's greatest love was her children, the grand and great-grand ones most of all. She was their biggest supporter. From the moment any of her bebe’s took their first breath, to the small wonders of watching them dance around the living room, on to graduation and academic accomplishments, all the way to watching them become parents-the enthusiasm and encouragement she gave always had the same level of pride, love, and awe.

Her love for each of her kids was unique and epic. She gave each of them just what they needed and what they didn’t even know they needed.

The most difficult challenge of her life was leaving her bebe's:

Joytasha “Consigliere”, her bebe's: Cloeann Bouvie “Face”, Vivilee Jade “Spider”, and Sabino “Bean” Chavez

Colbyrae “Her Rock”, (Paul “Honey”), and their tiniest of terrors Luciano Everett “Monster Mash” Chavez Ortiz

Felicia “Nikki”, (Daniel “Steven”) Muniz, and Nana's 1st grandbebe’s Joshua “BooloumanJackson”(Kat), their tyke Noah “Little Jackson” Chavez, Ashley “Smashley” Chavez, her OG toastmaster Kaylee Kristine Chavez and her little one Miss Sophie “The New ToastMaster Queen”.

Más Fina, the life of the party, if only to make others laugh, she didn't like seeing anyone sad or hurt. She had a way of telling stories and jokes that made you forget your worries, relax and just laugh. When times are tough, she would say, "Don't worry your pretty little face, tomorrow is a new day, kayy?”

Delphin’s bebe’s ask that you honor her by sending out positive vibes and healing energy into the universe, while listening to one of her favorites: Eagles (Hotel California), Steve Miller Band (The Joker), or Reasons (Earth Wind and Fire) or one that reminds you of her. In the words of our irreplaceable Nana, “You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.”

In lieu of the traditional funeral services, a celebration of life will be held in February to celebrate her birthday; details to follow.
