February 12, 1972 - February 8, 2014 David John Mark Schweitzer entered the world on February 12, 1972 with a scab on his nose and adventure in his heart. His great grandmother announced that it was too much name for a little boy and she would call him “DJ”. The name stuck until he decided it sounded like a too childish and began to go by Dave or David but to his family he will always be “DJ”. He only had one speed and that was all out. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone, whether they listened or not. He lived most of his life in Westminster, attending Sunset Ridge and Flynn Elementary schools, Shaw Heights Jr.High and graduated from Westminster High School in 1991. He was a Cub Scout, Weblo and Boy Scout. He joined Fellowship Chapter of DeMolay and served as Master Councilor twice, he was a State District Master Councilor and a Chevalier. He loved giving the Flower Talk and did so at several Masonic organizations. He enjoyed photography and was part of the Auto Mechanics Club at Westy as well. He worked at several jobs after graduation and joined East Denver Lodge # 160 AFAM in 1993. After his son was born in 1995, he fulfilled his boyhood dream and joined the Southwest Adams County fire department as a volunteer. He became a security guard to supplement his fire department duties and after his daughter was born in 2001, he moved to Aurora where he joined Sable-Altura fire department for a short time. He missed Westminster and moved back to his roots not long after that where he resided until his sudden and unexpected death. He was a loving husband, father, son, and grandson, typical teasing little brother and family clown, and was always ready and willing to give a hand to anyone who needed help. He was involved with Broomfield Chapter DeMolay with his son and with Job's Daughters Bethel #5 with his daughter. He was employed by Guardsmark Security at the time of his passing. He wanted to be an organ donor, but we were unable to fulfill that wish. He will be deeply missed by his wife Cheryl, son Daniel, daughter Karessa and step-daughter Cymber, his parents Dave and Judi Schweitzer, sisters Becky (Tracy) Nelson and Amy (Fred) Meyer, grandparents Jim and Alice Ellsworth, in-laws Ron and Sandy Hammack, nephews Jeremy (Kylie), Andy, John (Brandi) and William Nelson, Joel Meyer and great nephews Glade and Rylund Nelson, numerous Aunts and Uncles, cousins and their families and a legion of friends and acquaintances. He touched so many, many lives during his brief stay with us and we know Heavens' Gates will be more secure as he waits for us to join him. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established for his children at: Premier Members Credit Union 5495 Arapahoe Ave Boulder CO 80303. Checks can be made payable to David Schweitzer and reference account # 6016101 in the memo line. A limb has fallen from our family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, don't worry about falls. I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. Until the day comes we're together again". Services were held at the Westminster Masonic Center, 8151 Bradburn Drive Westminster, CO. 80031 on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 12:30. A reception followed immediately after the service.
