Christopher David Stauffer Sr.

Christopher David Stauffer, Sr. November 13, 1950 – July 23, 2016. Chris was born and raised in Tacoma, a graduated of Lincoln High School in 1969. He enrolled at Central Washington University in the fall, where he met his wife, Jan. They married January 2, 1971, in Anacortes. Chris taught at Rainier School District in NW Oregon. While there, he coached track, basketball, and his favorite, football. Even after retirement, he coached football – for 43 years. He coached at Mark Morris in Longview and Prairie View High School in Henderson, Colorado. His last day of coaching was June 20 with his Prairie View boys at CSU Pueblo High School Football Camp. Coaching with his son, Kevin, brought him great joy. Chris & Jan ran the ski program for Rainier School District for over 20 years. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jan, at the family home in Commerce City, Colorado; adult children Christopher (Jing) of Los Angles, Sarah of Longview, and Kevin (Korri) and grandsons, Braden, Lukas, and Griffin Stauffer of Commerce City, brother Larry (Melanie) of Tacoma. Chris & Jan also provided a home to James Penter, and Tammy Walker. They moved to Colorado in 2009. Niece Megan Verhoeff also joined the “immediate family” in Colorado. Chris was predeceased by brother Ralph Edward, Jr.; sister Jean Stauffer Milburn and parents, Ralph & Anna (Cook) Stauffer. A service is scheduled at the Rainier High School Auditorium at 28170 Old Rainier Rd, Rainier, Oregon at 2 pm, Saturday, July 30. Memorials may be made to the Prairie View High School Football program, 12909 E 120th, Henderson, CO 80640, or the Cathy Verhoeff Memorial Scholarship at the First Baptist Church in Anacortes, Washington.
