Christopher Alan Hoben was born in Longmont Colorado on Valentine’s Day in 1961. He passed away on March 5th, 2023, in Westminster Colorado. He was 62 years old.
Chris grew up in Northglenn Colorado where he was involved in various sports. From an early age he played football, baseball and soccer. He continued to play throughout his childhood and into high school. He made the varsity soccer team at Northglenn High School and lettered in soccer. DU offered him a scholarship to play soccer but his love for cars and working on them sent him in a different direction.
Chris had a God given talent for all things mechanical. Those talents led him to seek employment at Douglas Toyota and Colorado Utility Trailers. He moved on from those jobs to United Brake Systems where his gift for gab was a perfect fit for selling semi brake shoes. He travelled throughout the western United States selling brake parts and putting on brake clinics. He loved to travel, meet new people and treated everyone he met as a friend. After a few years he decided he wanted to start his own business and tried sandblasting. Although he had no prior knowledge on how to blast, he was able to build a thriving business. He loved being his own boss and at the end of the day looked forward to his friends coming to “Blastmaster Beach”, where they would sit around and talk about cars. He loved swap meets, car shows, drag races and was always searching for a great deal on what he called “old iron”. He loved the Denver Broncos and would listen to sports radio for hours. Chris had a wicked sense of humor and had a great poker face that enabled him to pull off some unbelievable jokes on his family and friends.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents Don and Dorothy, his father-in-law Rich, Uncle Jack, Sister-in-law Karen, cousin Dallas, Aunt Geralene, Aunt Jeanne, great nephew Logan, grandparents, many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Debbie, his brothers Brad and his wife Michelle, Shawn and his wife Linda, Mick and his wife Kristi and his sister Sheila. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law Rick and his wife Rochelle, Jeff and his wife Penny and his mother-in-law Bea. His nephews AJ, Dan J, Nathan, Ryan, Matt, and Josh. His nephews Rob and Dan were like his own children. His nieces Brittney, Brianna, Zoie, Jessica, Kim, Kelley and “his girl” Kyndall.
He had a whole new generation of nieces and nephews to love including Trey, Eli, Noah, Malachi, Vail, Bailey, and Gracie who called him “the giant”. He is also survived by his cousins the Welshes/Hallers in Nebraska and Texas. The Schake’s/Robinsons in Nebraska and Washington, along with Hoben cousins and Aunts in Texas. And Rohde cousins in Michigan and Georgia.
A graveside service will be held at Broomfield County Commons Cemetery on May 6th at noon. Followed by a celebration of Life at IHM Stewardship Hall at 1:00 pm in Northglenn.
