Carol Jean Johnson “Absent from the body, present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8 June 4, 1942 – April 11, 2019 Arvada, CO Carol, 76, a retired high school and middle school English teacher, died April 11, 2019 after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Carol is safe in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. Carol was born the only child of Elvira (Vi) and Roland (Bummy) Des Jardins of Niagara, WI, on June 4, 1942. She graduated from Niagara High School in Wisconsin, and attended UW Oshkosh and UW Milwaukee, graduating from UWM to become an English teacher. A beloved wife, mother, step mother, teacher, mentor, and friend, Carol was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) E. Johnson, and is survived by her daughters Lianne (Lance) Rabehl of Beloit, WI., Helene (John) Burke of Green Bay, WI., step – daughters Hope (Darrell) Berry of Lebanon, IN, and Faith (Kenny) Ashton, of Shelbyville, KY. She is remembered by many loving friends that helped her through her battle with cancer, and cherished family members and grandchildren. Carol spent her 30+ years as an educator helping thousands of children learn and grow. Teaching in Wisconsin public schools, rural schools in Jamaica, public schools in Minneapolis, and Catholic schools in Denver, Carol dedicated herself to the learning and growth of young people everywhere. In her retirement Carol enjoyed becoming a docent at the Denver Botanical Gardens as gardening and flowers were a passion for her. She regularly attended The Crossing Church of the Nazarene which allowed her to continue to teach in their Whiz Kids program, volunteer with Food for Hope, and for other things the church needed. She has a dedicated family of church friends who will miss her smile and sunny disposition. In lieu of flowers Carol asked that donations be made to MaxFund Animal Adoption Center, or Dumb Friends League. At Carol’s request, memorial services will be held in June for her birthday, in celebration of her life.
