Carol Ann Cook passed away on October 13, 2016 at the age of 72 in her home with her family by her side. She suffered from Dementia for many years. Carol was born Oct 21, 1943 to Henry & Cora Nielsen in Storm Lake, Iowa. She made it a family of four when she joined her older sister Janice. She was baptized and confirmed as a member of St Johns Lutheran Church. In 1961, she graduated from Storm Lake High School and worked at Citizens First National Bank until her marriage to Thomas(Ed) Abbott. They moved to England where Ed was stationed in the Air Force. They had a son Mark born August 20, 1963. Upon returning to the states, they made Roswell, New Mexico their home until they divorced. Carol and Mark then made a move to Colorado to be near her family. She met and married Don Cook, the love of her life. Their daughter Dawn was born on May 22, 1971. They lived in Broomfield for 22 years and then made Arvada their permanent home for the next 24 years. One of Carol's most memorable vacations was a trip to Denmark when she was a teenager to meet her grandmother and the rest of her father’s family members. Carol's pride and joy was being with her family. They enjoyed hiking and camping almost every summer in beautiful Estes Park. Horseback riding was a huge passion of hers. Some of her favorite hobbies were gardening, cooking, reading and decorating. She was actively involved in Mark and Dawn's numerous social activities. Preceding her in death were her parents and Aunts Bessie Dlugosch (infancy), Hilda Peterson and Lillie Dlugosch. Surviving family members are husband Don; children Mark Abbott and husband Ed Baker, Dawn Cook, sister Janice Bridge, brother in-law Ed Cook and wife Cheryl, sister in-laws Carol Knuth, Judy Cook (Petsch) and husband Wayne and Debbie Carlton, nephews and nieces Mike Cook and wife Shelley, Ben Bridge, Eric Cook, Ginger Petsch (Hartman) and husband Clint, Jessica Petsch (Kramer) and husband Josh, Stephanie Cook (Koeller) and husband Ed, Melissa Cook (Morrow) and husband Willard, Adam Carlton and Noah Riensch. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 28 th starting at 11 a.m. followed by a reception at Bethlehem Lutheran Church located at 2100 N. Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, CO 80214.
