Bonnie Lee Rogers

October 27, 1934 — February 26, 2016

81, passed away peacefully while held in prayer and love, on Friday, February 26, 2016 at her home in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. She was born October 27, 1934, in Boone Iowa, the only daughter of Glenn and Mildred Wickstrom. Bonnie graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa with a degree in education and music. She got her first teaching job and moved to Wallingford, CT upon graduation. In April of 1961, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Russell Rogers, living in Ridgewood, NJ. The couple eventually moved to Colorado Springs where they opened a music store. Bonnie enjoyed her career as an elementary music teacher and a sales entrepreneur. In 1973, the family settled in the Denver metro area. Bonnie was an active member of Mile Hi Church and, in addition to raising her children, was an avid volunteer and participated in many clubs over her life time. She simply enjoyed being an active and giving person. In her spare time, she enjoyed travel, flowers, being outdoors, reading and learning new things. Friends and family were Bonnie’s passion and delight. She loved to host and entertain and frequently had people over her house. She savored all news about her friends and family and enjoyed many outing, adventures and trips with her cherished loved ones. She is survived by her partner Ron Leger of Golden; four children, Stephen Rogers of Connecticut, Cathryn Hilliker of Parker, CO, Peter Rogers of Georgia and Christen Rogers de Reyes of Littleton, CO; eight grandchildren, Andrea Rogers, James Rogers, Katy Vereneau, Gil Rogers III, Selamawit Reyes Rogers, Savannah Reyes Rogers, Allison Rogers and Vanessa Rogers; and 3 great grandchildren, Lillian Rogers, Luke and Abbey Vereneau, Addison Rogers and Gil Rogers IV. She also leaves behind numerous loving neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Rogers, and her son, Gilbert Rogers, Jr. A Memorial Service and Life Celebration will be held on Thursday, March 10 at 10:00 am at Mile Hi Church with Dr. Patty Luckenbach officiating. The family will be there to greet relatives and friends and wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness. Mom loved this center and really had a great time there over the years. She participated in many of their talks, activities, groups and outings. She also enjoyed playing the keyboard for “sing-alongs” with fellow participants and staff. Beyond financial donations, Bonnie always lived by the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you would like to be treated. i.e. Do a loving act of kindness, make someone laugh, send a card, give a hug, or say “I love you” to your special friend in her memory
