Obituary for Bonnie Spitzer

Bonnie Jane Spitzer was born in Grand Junction Colorado on December 5, 1937. She died in Denver Colorado on September 3, 2023, at the age of 85.

Bonnie was a kind, gentle and loving woman who rarely became unsettled or distressed. She took whatever came in stride and was amazingly flexible with the circumstances of life. On the other hand, she was frank, opinionated and smart and could hold her own in discussions and debates.

She received her early education in Clifton, Colorado then attended Central High School in Grand Junction Colorado. She then went to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley where she received her bachelor's degree in education. After working for a short time at Grand Junction High School, she then became adventurous and spent some time serving in a school in Kodiak Alaska (at the Navy base), followed by her major contribution as high school librarian for an extended period in Sandpoint Idaho.

Her values and character were mainly formed by her family’s strong heritage as followers of Jesus. Her mother and father instilled in her and her sister a love for God and people. They also by teaching and example integrated the Bible’s wisdom and morality into the life of the family.

Bonnie never married or had children of her own. Yet, a great joy of her life was how she was able to influence the lives of many children. Through her church she met several families who adopted her as auntie and grandmother. Also, the children of her nieces and nephew fondly remember the times they were able to spend with her, though infrequent. Now Bonnie genuinely enjoyed her work, but she also loved to travel. It’s clear from all the scrapbooks (and slides) she left behind that she also loved to take photographs of all her adventures.

Bonnie has now made the final journey, from this life to a far greater one promised to her by Christ. She was preceded toward this end by her parents Ben and Carrie Spitzer and sister Betty. She is survived by her nieces and nephew: Lynette Johnson, Dian Johnson and Mike Johnson (with their seven children and twelve grandchildren).

Bonnie’s life will be remembered and celebrated at a memorial service at Clifton Christian Church (3241 F ¼ Road, Clifton Colorado) on Thursday September 14th beginning at 2:00pm.

"Jesus said… I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die."

John 11:25-26
