Bill Grammer

June 23, 1938 — June 25, 2019

If you knew Bill, you know of his love of golf. He loved the game and only a few clubs were thrown, but quite a few golf balls were lost and some choice words may have been said. For the most part, he lost patience only with himself. He started out golfing with his dad, and it grew from there. He once caddied for Sam Sneed, which was quite a thrill for him. Bill had two daughters, adopted two sons, and later married Sally and loved her three children like his own. For 42 years Bill and Sally have had a combined family of seven children; and now also have eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two Mini-Schnauzers. He worked at Rocky Flats for 29 years, retiring in 1992, and then worked part time jobs or volunteered. He mowed the fairways at Indian Tree Golf Course (when he wasn’t playing there). He worked part time for Midtown Inpatient Medicine for over five years until just a few weeks ago. He volunteered at Lutheran Hospital for several years, and more recently he volunteered for the Arvada Historical Society helping with flour mill tours. Unfortunately, metastatic cancer took a rapid toll on his body and he passed from complications on June 25, just 12 days after the diagnosis. Bill will be remembered for his “cheerful grumpiness,” his love for his family, his friends, his dogs, and his good-natured humor. He was my hero, my friend, confidant and partner in life’s journey. An open house celebration of life will be held on July 21 from 1:00 – 3:00 at Indian Tree Golf Clubhouse, and we would love it if you would stop by and share a story about Bill. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to the Junior Golf program at Indian Tree Golf Course, 7555 Wadsworth, Arvada, CO 80003, or via Zelle or ApplePay to 720-244-2917 (daughter Julynn) with “Bill” in the memo. Donations will be given to the Junior Golf program.
