Anita Louise Lucero

September 19, 1953 — March 29, 2016

Anita Louise Lucero, 62, went to her eternal rest with the Lord on March 29th of 2016. She is survived by her sister, Stella Mary Romero, her brothers, Jose Samuel Lucero and David Steven Lucero, as well as her nieces and nephew, Stephanie Mahoney, Sandra Matt, and David Romero. Anita was born on September 19th, 1952 and raised in Denver, Colorado with her parents and siblings. Anita’s life was rich with adventure, heartbreak, rejuvenation, and love. As a young girl and teenager, she enjoyed living life to the fullest. In her later years, she and her siblings lost their sister Patricia, which had a profound impact on each of her surviving siblings. In spite of that loss however, and the loss of her parents later in life, Anita had an unshakeable faith in the Lord and his mother Mary. For the past 20 years, Anita visited the Mother Cabrini Shrine and donated to the church regularly, sharing what little she had to give. She enjoyed spending time with her sister and brothers, as well as volunteering at church whenever she was able. Over the holidays, she relished the chance to see her extended family – which included cousins, nieces, nephews, and she celebrated each new addition to the family. Anita possessed a capacity for unconditional love, joy in life’s small victories, and faith -- always she had her faith. Though her life was not always easy, and she struggled with her health much of her adult life, her kindness and her heart will be her legacy. As her family, we honored her choices and independence in life, and we honor her faith and love in her absence. Please join us in celebrating the life of a wonderful sister and friend. Services will be held at St. Bernadette’s Church, near her home, at 1100 Upham St. Lakewood CO, 80124 on Saturday April 9th, 2016. The mass will begin at 10:00am and the family will host a reception immediately following. “They who pray with faith have fervour and fevour is the fire of prayer. This mysterious fire has the power of consuming all our faults and imperfections, and of giving to our actions, vitality, beauty, and merit.” ~Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini~
