July 4, 1941 - January 14, 2012 Gene was born July 4th, 1941 in Denver, Colorado. He was raised in Arvada and graduated from West High School in 1959. Gene and Donela married on October 7, 1962 and they moved to Coal Creek Canyon in 1968. There he joined the Coal Creek Canyon Volunteer Fire Department in 1968 and retired in 1989. He started working for Federal Planning Mill as a cabinet maker. He later decided he wanted more for his family and left for Martin Marietta worked there for awhile and ended at Rocky Flats in their carpentry department. He retired in 1991 and started his retirement with Donela traveling the back roads of Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, and loving every moment. Gene joined the Colorado Carvers Club and loved carving birds and fish. He taught many people how to carve and gave a lot of carving tips. He also loved to fish, camp, and most of all spend time with his family. The one thing that made his life complete next to his wife, two sons, daughter in-law was his grandson Travis. There wasn't a day that didn't go by that he wasn't telling someone how proud he was of his grandson. Gene leaves behind a great legacy in Coal Creek Canyon. Gene is survived by his wife Donela; two sons Tom and Ken; daughter in-law Sheryl; grandson Travis. He is also survived by his brother and sister in-law Jerry and Sue Roberts; Sister Kay Mills and many nieces and nephews that he loved so dearly. A Memorial Service for Gene will be held at Crossroads Church of Denver 9901 W. 50th Ave, Wheat Ridge, Co at 2:00pm Friday, January 20, 2012
