February 27, 1919 - June 16, 2014 Alice E Moore was born in Beeler KS on Feb 27, 1919 to Ira Elmer and Etta Wickersham Moore. She had 1 older brother, 2 older sisters and 1 younger sister. She attended school in Garden City KS where she met Ivan Grey Dawson. They were married Oct 14, 1940 at Ivan's parent's home in Garden City. That marriage produced 3 daughters, Karen in 1941, Glenda in 1943 and Judith in 1945. The family moved to Manitou Springs in 1948 and to Denver shortly thereafter. Alice was a stay at home mom, lunch lady, church secretary and took in ironing to help support her family. She was an accomplished seamstress, making most of her own and her daughters' clothes and always had a garden. They resided in North Denver until 1962, when they fulfilled their dream of building a new home in Arvada. Ivan passed away in 1968 and Alice continued to live in Arvada until 1971 when she moved to a smaller home in Federal Heights. In 1985 after one of Colorado's infamous snow storms, she said she'd had enough cold and ice and she went to Mesa AZ to visit friends and found a place she liked in Apache Junction and moved, lock, stock and barrel. She had many friends who were snow birds but she stayed full time. She loved to square dance but without a partner she became an angel, someone who could fill any square. She made all of her dance dresses, appliqueing holiday decorations and other designs on them to make each one unique. In 1989, a couple from Canada, Jim and Donna Quinn introduced Alice to Jim Ellsworth as a dance partner. Jim's wife June was in a wheelchair and couldn't dance and Alice didn't have a partner and soon a close friendship was formed. After June passed away, Jim and Alice married on Mar 20, 1994. They remained in Mesa, traveling in the 5th wheel to many square dance conventions until health issues led them to move to Hudson CO to be closer to family. Their little home was a source of pride and their garden supplied friends and family with fresh produce all spring and summer. Alice was raised Methodist and Jim was Catholic, so they attended services and activities at both and made many friends. They moved to Keystone at Legacy Ridge in 2012 and made many more friends there and danced at the resident monthly birthday parties until Alice's health began to fail. A severe bout of Shingles was the final blow and Alice passed away peacefully at St Anthony North hospital on June 16, 2014 at the age of 95. Alice was preceded in death by her first husband Ivan Grey Dawson in 1969, all of her siblings, and her youngest grandson DJ Schweitzer in 2014. She is lovingly survived by her husband of 20 years, Jim Ellsworth, 3 daughters, Karen Butters, Glenda (Ed) Schlegel and Judith (Dave) Schweitzer, 5 step-children, Tom (Nora) Ellsworth, Carol Ellsworth, Dick (Lynette) Ellsworth, Audrey Sartin and Chuck (Paula) Ellsworth, 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren , 4 great- great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends from all over.
