Adeline (Addie) Lucas

January 15, 1929 — January 15, 2023

Lucas, Adeline Louise "Addie"

Adeline "Addie" Lucas passed away unexpectedly on her 94th birthday, January 15, 2023, at St. Anthony hospital in Westminster, CO. She was surrounded by family at her time of passing.

Addie was born 1-15-1929 in Connecticut to John and Katherine Gabrys. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Superior, WI, where she grew up.

She graduated with honors from Central High School in 1947.

Addie attended the University of Wisconsin, Superior, where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 1951. She was an active member of the Lambda Sigma Lombdo Sorority including Secretary, vice president and president. She was also a member of the International Relations Club.

She met her future husband, James Lucas, while attending UWS.

Addie started her teaching career once she graduated from college. Her first job was at the Central High School, where she was recently a student.

James and Adeline married on August 8, 1953 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Superior, WI, and enjoyed nearly 63 years together prior to his death in 2016.

In 1958, they moved to Europe to teach in the Military school system. They lived in Verdun France, Hanau and Frankfurt Germany during their 6 years overseas. Addie loved every moment they were abroad. She loved the history, culture and people. This deepened her passion for travel throughout her life.

Her daughter, Lori Lucas, was born in 1962 in Germany.

In 1964, Jim and Addie moved to Bloomington, Minnesota so they could be closer to family. She continued her teaching career at Folwell Jr. High School and Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, MN until she retired in 1989.

Addie loved spending summers at her Northern Wisconsin home on the Upper Eau Claire Lake. Every weekend was filled with friends and family, which she and Jim loved. Their property was like a wildlife sanctuary, where she was at one with nature. She made sure it was a safe place for the animals.

Addie also loved her Lantana Florida home, where she escaped the cold and snowy winters. Her love for family continued year round, where she enjoyed hosting them at both of her homes.

She was a world traveler, who never lost her passion for travel. She and Lori took many month long trips around the world throughout the years. She was planning a 32 day cruise weeks before her passing.

Her zest for life, love of family, friends and animals gave her much joy, which she shared with those around her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy for the love of animals, travel, family & friends will live in all of us forever.

Addie is survived by her daughter, Lori Lucas of Westminster, CO, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband James Lucas ( 2016) and her siblings Rudy Gabrys, Janet Lee and Julia Golden

Services were held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO on February 14, 2023
